Biero

The Social Roasting Company is now supplying coffee to Biero. This fantastic bar at 595 Lt Lonsdale st, already provides an amazing range of craft beers and tasty tapas. The spanking new Expobar Ruggero multi-boiler machine with 2 Compak grinders allows the staff to give you the ultimate coffee experience. Featuring SRC’s ‘Social Blend’ and great single origins that change weekly to match what is coming out of the kitchen. At long last the long lunch doesn’t have to take you over the limit.

A huge thank you to Edwin Koh and Raymond Kent of Biero for helping us achieve huge leaps in combining great beer, great food and great coffee.

Ethiopian Harrar Longberry

In the eastern foothills of Ethiopia many small farms produce this truly original coffee. Natural processing brings out the lovely winey, blackcurrant flavours that highlight this rich, heavily bodied coffee. An amazing after dinner accompaniment to cheese and conversation.

Coffee Appreciation Nights

SRC are wanting to involve you in our coffee selection.

With the new crops coming in from Central America and India we will be doing extensive cupping. As such we would like to involve you in the process. Over the next month SRC at 307 Racecourse Rd will be hosting Coffee Appreciation Nights. The purpose of these is to bring you into the dirty secrets of my everyday job of coffee selection, roasting and blending.

The nights will consist of 3 single origin coffees, each brewed in 3 different methods. This allows you to compare the different flavours of different origins as well as the different flavour profiles achieved through different brewing techniques.

Currently these nights will be: March 29th, April 11th and April 18th kicking of at 630pm.

Please register any interest at any of our stores or via email. info@socialroasting.com.au

Developments at SRC

As always we are working on improving our service, social impact and of course coffee quality. On this last point I am just writing to let you know what is happening in the world of specialty coffee at SRC.

A huge jump in African coffees has meant we have to be careful what we bring in. Ethiopian and Kenyan coffees are always popular. Unfortunately current green bean prices for these have almost doubled on last years crop. We will still be bringing you these beans, however they will be roasted more sporadically. Please keep an eye on our shelves for these.

On the bright side. Central American coffees are tasting even better than last year. Cleaner, more vibrant cups. Wonderful bright floral flavours and an excellent consistency throughout the lots. All this means greater coffee enjoyment for all. Although the first Peru lots have landed we are still waiting on yours and our favourite, El Salvador. Due to land in April you will see these hitting our shelves and grinders not long after.

India is continuing to provide consistent, flavour packed coffee. Many thanks go to their rigorous screening and great care of the product. We have recently rediscovered the joy of Monsoon Malabar at SRC and is currently forming an integral part of our Social Blend. Of course Tiger Mountain is here and is looking to make a few appearances as guest bean.

To help you and us with all the new coffees SRC are looking to start hosting Coffee Appreciation nights at both our McKillop and Racecourse rd stores. Along with alternative brewing methods for these fantastic single origin coffees. Please ask any of our staff for details on these and they can point you in the right direction.

Indian Monsoon Malabar

These dry processed beans are exposed to monsoon winds specific to the Malabar coast. As such, a very unique flavour is achieved. Low in acidity with the fantastic intensity of dried stonefruits.

Ethiopian Limu

The dry processing of this bean allows for fantastic stonefruit flavours to develop. Whilst the medium roast level brings balance to the sugars and acidity. With notes of plum and toasted coconut in the nose and blueberry muffin on the pallet.

Uganda Sipi Falls Organic

High grown in rich volcanic soil has led this coffee to develop a deep bold flavour. Despite the darker roast it remains smooth and free from bitterness.

El Salvador Las Lajas Organic

A mellow soothing coffee. Packed with caramels and a hint of floral chocolate.

Dominican Republic PSP Organic

Typical of most island grown coffees. Huge terroir influences in the cup, ie allspice and stonefruits with light vanilla notes.

Peru Paraiso Perdido Organic

The medium roast on this brings out the natural acidity, whilst keeping a smooth praline nuttiness.
